About

An independent platform, built for one of the hardest decisions a family makes.

Finding a care home for someone you love usually happens at speed, often after a hospital phone call, and almost always under pressure. Akinn exists to make that decision calmer and better-informed.

Why we exist

The UK has roughly 17,000 CQC-registered care homes. Most families have, at best, a few weeks to learn how the system works, understand funding, visit homes, and decide. The existing comparison platforms either monetise through paid rankings, take large success fees on placements, or both. The information that matters — what's actually included in the weekly fee, how the home performed at its last inspection, whether it has any vacancies right now — is often the hardest to find.

We're building a calmer alternative: published methodology, transparent fees, no paid rankings, free for families.

How we make money

Care providers pay an annual subscription (£600–£2,400) plus per-qualified-enquiry credits (from £25). Families pay nothing. We don't take commission on placements. We don't sell data. See our pricing page for the full structure.

Where we're starting

Our launch corridor is Hastings, East Sussex, and Kent. We chose a tight geography deliberately — depth of verification matters more than breadth at this stage. As the corridor matures, we'll expand methodically rather than scrape every CQC listing into a national index that no family can trust.

Who's behind it

Akinn is a small team with backgrounds across product, healthcare operations, and platform engineering. We work with an advisory group that includes an operator in our launch corridor — a relationship we disclose in full.

What's next

The platform you're using now is v2.0. Reviews submission, the provider portal, and live availability sync require backend infrastructure currently in development. Each feature ships when it's ready to ship, not before.
